The Power of a Second Opinion: Navigating Health Decisions with Hope
I often think about all the people who go to their doctors when they have health issues. Doctors do what they do, and also, often recommend X-rays, MRIs, and/or visual observation. When someone has physical pain, a doctor may first manipulate the area to try to alleviate the pain, and then offer their recommendation of treatment. Growing up, we went to one doctor when we did not feel well, and they would most often just try to “fix us” with pills or procedures.
I never once saw my mom, who died way too young, get a second medical opinion. I wish that she had. If you know my story, I have spoken of receiving miracles along the way, when I had blocked arteries. I really did not seek a second opinion, but rather just wanted to go to the Cleveland Clinic in the first place, when I was told I needed either heart bypass surgery or a heart transplant. Had I not gone there, I would have had surgery and never would have founded Plant Based Nutrition Support Group (PBNSG).
So what is my point? I respect that anyone, when saddled with health issues, will do what they think is best. After all, no one wants to feel bad or sick. Whether you go to one doctor, or in my case, four, consider taking the time to look at every, and all, options. Share what you are going through with your circle of trusted people, and then, with a positive attitude, go for it – whatever it is you decide. These days, there is so much information on the internet, but it is not always easy to decipher facts from fiction.
There is so much knowledge out there, as well as options. I also believe there is hope. With hope as our compass, we can navigate the twists and turns of life’s journey
